This large scale dry stone wall restoration project took place in November 2007. Owner of Complete
Outdoor Installation, LLC, Zach Goebelt was selected to complete two separate sections of stone walls at Stan
Hywet after becoming certified by the Dry Stone Conservancy of Lexington Kentucky. Zach had worked and
trained with the Conservancy at Stan Hywet earlier in the summer to complete 300 feet of stone wall
restoration while two sections remained unfinished as the Conservancy project budget had come to an end.
After funds were cleared Stan Hywet Hall asked Complete Outdoor Installation to return and finish
restoration on two remaining sections of wall. The section of wall pictured here was a complete tear down
and rebuild. The original wall was constructed around 1915. Extra rock was brought in to be used as cap
stones but the majority of the work was completed using original material. This project exemplifies the
recyclable nature of dry stone construction.
